We've always been advised to work hard, save your money for the unexpected, be involved in your community, take care of your family and have insurance.

It's good advice, but sometimes it's just not enough. Things happen that no one ever expects, like a catastrophic illness. That's exactly what happened to our friend Sheana Davis. She did all the right, responsible things, but life sent her a severe blow in the form of a disease she had never even heard of. The good news, that we are all thankful for, is she survived and continues to recover and regain her vibrant, busy life. The not so good news is she is left with over $100,000.00 in medical bills; her share of the co-pay after her health insurance paid their portion.

In Sonoma Valley, we take care of each other. Our community gets involved, shares our abundance and brings a spirit of togetherness to any challenge. Sheana is the epitome of that spirit. Over her 20 some years as a prominent figure in the nonprofit and culinary communities, she has volunteered for countless organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club, Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce, Sonoma Charter School, Aids Projects, Sonoma Valley Girls Softball, the Sonoma Valley Grange, Four C's Childcare, Sonoma Valley Vintners and Growers and many, many more.

That's why a group of friends has organized to produce a Sonoma Valley style fundraiser called Harvest in our Home, on October 15, 2006, to raise money to help Sheana reduce her medical debt. But it doesn't end there, the event will live on. Every October, Harvest in our Home will raise money for another community parent. The event has already gained momentum. The Lodge at Sonoma has graciously offered their venue and 50 wineries, 12 breweries and 25 restaurants and caterers have committed to participate.

How can you help? Mark your calendars now and plan to attend; commit to be a sponsor, offer an auction item or send a cash donation to help offset expenses. We know you will join us in establishing this event and a fund to bring relief to a Sonoma Valley friend who has done all the right things, been a caring and involved community leader and volunteer and a great parent.
